Steel Pulse is a Grammy Award-winning roots reggae band from the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England, which has many Afro-Caribbean, Indian and other Asian migrants. They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School - composed of David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals), and Ronald McQueen (bass); along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums and Michael Riley (vocals, percussion).
Steel Pulse was the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album when they won it for their 1985 album Babylon the Bandit. In 2019, Steel Pulse released their first new album in 14 years, titled Mass Manipulation.
Mass Manipulation was nominated for the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in the 62nd Grammy Awards.
