6815
Gloria Estefan
Gloria Estefan (born Gloria María Fajardo, September 1, 1957, in Havana, Cuba) is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, actress and social activist. Known as the "Queen of Latin Pop", she in the top 100 best-selling music artists with over 100 million albums sold worldwide, 31.5 million of those in the United States. Estefan is the most successful crossover performer in Latin music to date.Beginning her career in 1975 as lead vocalist for the then exclusively Spanish-language band, Miami Sound Machine, before crossing over to mainstream pop success with the international hit singles "Dr. Beat" (1984) and "Conga" (1986), Estefan emerged as one of the biggest new stars in the mid-'80s, predating the still nascent Latin pop explosion by a decade, and scoring a series of propulsive dance hits rooted in the rhythms of her native Cuba, before shifting her focus to softer, more ballad-oriented fare. Born in Havana, Cuba, the young Gloria Fajardo was raised primarily in Miami, FL, after her father, a bodyguard of Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, was forced to flee the island following the 1959 coup helmed by Fidel Castro. In the fall of 1975, Fajardo and her cousin Merci Murciano auditioned for the Miami Latin Boys, a local wedding band headed by keyboardist Emilio Estefan. With their addition, the group was rechristened Miami Sound Machine and four years later, Fajardo and Estefan were wed. As Miami Sound Machine began composing their own original material, their fusion of pop, disco, and salsa earned a devoted local following, and in 1979 the group issued their first Spanish-language LP on CBS International. Despite a growing Hispanic fan base, they did not cross over to non-Latin audiences until "Dr. Beat" topped European dance charts in 1984. With 1985's Primitive Love, Miami Sound Machine recorded their first English-language effort, scoring three Top Ten pop hits in the U.S. alone with the infectious "Conga", "Bad Boy", and "Words Get in the Way". Following 1987's triple-platinum Let It Loose, Estefan took top billing and the group changed its name to Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine in 1988, reeling off four Top Ten hits - "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "Can't Stay Away from You", the chart-topping "Anything for You", and "1-2-3". 1989's Cuts Both Ways was credited to Estefan alone and generated her second #1 hit, "Don't Wanna Lose You". However, on March 20, 1990, while touring in support of the album, her bus was struck by a tractor trailer. Estefan suffered a broken vertebra that required extensive surgery and kept her off the road for over a year. Her husband Emilio and the couple's son were injured in the crash as well, but all three recovered. Estefan resurfaced in 1991 with Into the Light, again topping the charts with "Coming Out of the Dark", a single inspired by her near-fatal accident. Two more cuts from the album, "Can't Forget You" and "Live for Loving You", secured her foothold on the adult contemporary charts. With 1993's Mi Tierra, Estefan returned to her roots, recording her first Spanish-language record in nearly a decade and earning a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album; on the follow-up 1994 covers collection, Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, she also recalled her dance-pop origins with a rendition of the Vicki Sue Robinson disco classic, "Turn the Beat Around". Another all-Spanish effort, Abriendo Puertas (1995), earned her a Grammy as well, while Destiny featured "Reach", named the official theme of the 1996 Summer Olympics. As Latin pop made new commercial headway, thanks to the efforts of acts like Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias, Estefan reigned as the most successful crossover artist in Latin music history, with international record sales close to the 50 million mark. In 1999, she also made her feature film debut alongside Meryl Streep in Music of the Heart, recording the film's title song as a duet with *NSYNC, and scoring both a massive pop hit and an Oscar nomination in the process. A new Spanish-language album, Alma Caribeña, followed in the spring of 2000. Several months later, Estefan was awarded a Grammy for Best Music Video for "No Me Dehes de Querer" at the inaugural annual Latin Grammy Awards. Her husband, Emilio, won for Producer of the Year. - Jason Ankeny, All Music GuideAppearances and toursIn April 2004, Estefan appeared on the Fox Broadcasting Company’s program, American Idol, but declined an offer to be an official judge, saying she did not like to “judge” others. On July 28, 2004, in a press conference hosted by Donald Trump at the Trump Tower, Estefan announced that her then-upcoming tour would be her final one. The Live and Re-Wrapped Summer/Fall 2004 Tour, her first tour in eight years was produced by Clear Channel Entertainment. The tour featured Estefan’s greatest hits, along with new material from Unwrapped. In December 2006, Estefan appeared as a special guest singer on the UK talent show The X Factor. Gloria's 11th studio album,Miss Little Havana. The Miss Little Havana Songfacts says that the first nine tracks tells the tale of a young girl who hooks up with the wrong guy in Miami after moving there from Cuba. All of these tracks were written or co-written by Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes. It is described by Estefan as a project in the vein of her 1998 hit album gloria!. Songfacts reports that "Hotel Nacional" debuted at #1 on Billboard's Latin countdown - the first time a female artist had achieved that feat since the chart was introduced in 1986. Both "Wepa" and "Hotel Nacional" achieved number one on Billboard Latin Songs and on Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. Estefan started a reality show called The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep opposite Joe Jonas, Nelly and John Rich on the CW Network, where she, and the other three mentors are searched for the next big star, to record an album with Atlantic Records. Unlike other music reality shows, in this program, the mentors selected the "candidates" for the show, and trained them for a live performance, where they'd be voted for the best act of the day. The first season ended in October 2012, with musician Michael Ray, as the big finalist.This same year, Estefan appeared as a musical guest in Tony Bennett's compilation of duets with Latin-American musicians, Viva Duets with a rendition of the song, "Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)". Weeks later, she helped the American version of Teleton, releasing the charity single "Por Un Mundo Mejor" along with Mexican singer Lucero, Dominican rapper El Cata and Mexican pop band, Reik. A video for the song was shot, with them recording the song, which was marked as the official hymn for the foundation.In May 2013, she appears doing another duet with the song "Think I'm In Love Again" as part of the albums Duets released by Paul Anka.Estefan has announced she was working on a new album of covers, The Standards, released in September 2013. The album will feature some collaborations with artists like Laura Pausini, Dave Koz and Joshua Bell, and the selection of songs are mostly songs from the Great American songbook.
6451
Dash Berlin
Dash Berlin is the future. Dash Berlin is a true DJ at heart with a profound passion for the comprehensive culture of dance music. He is often described as an invigorating and charismatic newcomer, with the unique ability to leave a long-lasting impression upon his audience well after the night is over. Dash is one of those rare individuals that seems to understand the unwritten laws of the nightclub by nature. He keeps his ever expanding, nocturnal following alert, ecstatic and craving for more, with remarkable precision and skill. One could easily mistake him for a superstar deejay. However, the truth remains that Dash Berlin views the world through the same eyes as his public. "It's virtually impossible to make progress without the continuing support of the people", he humbly said. Dash Berlin, was born as Jeff X. Sutorius, in November 1979, in The Hague, the Netherlands. A family with wide musical tastes surrounded him and because of his late father, who was a distinguished drummer in a jazz band; Dash became acquainted with the typical marks of rhythmic music at a very young age. While still at high school, he became a devoted fan of electronic music, regularly enjoying mix tapes that his older sister brought home from the clubs she worked at as a professional dancer. In his late teens, Dash Berlin started working at a record shop and became a dedicated vinyl collector with a fascination for melodic, synthesized house music, subsequently known as "Trance". Inspired by pioneering figures such as; Sven Väth, Oliver Lieb and Sander Kleinenberg, he slowly but surely started to develop his own innovative style of mixing and producing. His hidden work ethic seemed not to be about producing more, but rather less and differently. It is this vision that still sets him apart in a crowded and highly competitive scene. Propelled by his passion, he literally performed everywhere, from nine-hour long gigs in shopping malls to the notorious illegal Dutch warehouse parties. During his set on the world famous Love Parade, Dash decided to incorporate the word 'Berlin' in his artist name. "It's an ode to a metropolis and her engaging, urban landscape," he said, "Where I have seen more then a million people dancing on the streets, in the in the spirit of an ever-evolving Europe". In early 2006, he teamed up with fellow producers and close friends, Molijn & Kalberg, who were regular customers at his record shop. "These guys are amazing visionaries and astonishing studio wizards, they are the foundation of my sound" Dash remarked, "I still learn from them every day". Together they designed an ambitious and unprecedented new sound of Trance, quickly labeled as the "Dash Berlin Sound". Futuristic, scintillating, but above all, moving and emotive music that relates to the universal dance floor experience, shared by innumerable music fans from multifarious cultures around the globe. Although a vigorous believer in political awareness, the message of Dash Berlin is simple; "It's all about having a good time again," he stated, "The art of celebrating life resonates inside of everyone". In 2007, none other than Armin van Buuren revealed his newfound discovery to the world and featured Dash Berlin's debut record "Till The Sky Falls Down" on his legendary 'Universal Religion' album. The track became one of the most memorable, global anthems that year and remains one of the cultivated blueprints of the new Trance renaissance. The black & white music video that complimented the radio mix was shot in the heart of Berlin proper. The clip grew to be a genuine labor of love, using the latest in digital cinematography, and successfully avoided the typical clichés of contemporary dance music videos. In the beginning of 2009, under the mighty wings of Armada Music, plans emerged to expand the Dash Berlin universe with his very own label called 'Aropa'. It represents an eclectic high-quality outlet for Dash Berlin's avant-garde productions and collaborations. The label will also be a solid foundation for rising talent and established like-minded artists. "The Aropa brand holds a deeper connotation too", Dash revealed, "It also stands for the axiom of sharing art, inspiration and creativity". The first release is the monster anthem "Man On The Run", which is a prolific collaboration with fellow Armada artists Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren. The track sky rocketed to the top of the international Trance charts and received a prestigious nomination for 'Best Trance Track' at the annual Trance Awards. October 2009 brought the global release of Dash Berlin's critically acclaimed debut album: "The New Daylight". Besides being a varied collection of styles, it also features instant classics such as: "Till The Sky Falls Down", "Man On The Run", "Waiting" and "Never Cry Again". 2009 ended with a reverberating bang, when listeners voted for a large number of Dash Berlin tracks and remixes in the 'A.S.O.T. End Of Year 250'. With "Man On The Run" standing out at number 5, the anthemic "Waiting" even went neck-and-neck with number one, ending at a respectable second place as the A.S.O.T. Tune Of The Year. 2010 promises to be another momentous year for Dash Berlin. In January, his 'New Daylight 2010 World Tour' kicked off in Australia and due to an overwhelming public demand, the "Flying Dutchman" is scheduled to jet to every corner of the world. From the hottest nightclubs to festivals with crowds numbering in the thousands, Dash connects with his audiences in a magical way that has spawned a worldwide following. This following is backed by a massive online presence through Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking platforms. His dedicated fans actively vote for him when it matters the most. This loyal support already resulted in an astonishing number 20 DJ List position early in the year. It also gained him honorable spots on the 'Trance.nu Future Stage' at Trance Energy and the A.S.O.T. 450 Celebration, which are two of the largest and most essential Trance events in the world. Last years voting rewarded him with an esteemed nomination for 'Best Break Through Artist', this year Dash Berlin was nominated an astonishing three times at the International Dance Music Awards. In February, Dash raised the bar with a pioneering 42-minute long 'Flashback' YouTube video mix, which received more than a hundred thousand views within a few weeks after uploading. Other 'Dash Berlin TV' videos are breaking records as well, with millions of views from all over the planet. With the creation and release of a free Dash Berlin iPhone app, the hard working deejay reaffirms his forward-thinking multimedia mindset. In March 2010, after mixing various popular Armada compilations, Dash Berlin released his very first official and long-awaited mix album aptly named 'United Destination'. This double-CD is a reflection of his recent gigs with a top selection of tracks straight from his record bag into two seamless deejay mixes. Stay tuned for much more; hence Dash Berlin is the future…
https://assets.allamericanmusic.com/images/6451_h_0.jpg
please contact"}

George Is On exemplifies Deep Dish's uncanny ability to mix genres, as the Iranian-American duo brilliantly marries classic 70's/80's era rock & pop sounds with their signature deep and sexy dancefloor production and knack for creating subtly big songs. The record features a tight knit group of DC-bred guest vocalists, including long time Deep Dish collaborator Richard Morel on "No Stopping For Nicotine," "Sacramento," and "Everybody's Wearing My Head" and newly discovered female vocalist Anousheh on "Flashdance," "Say Hello," and "Awake Enough." Dubfire himself also debuts his vocal talents on the melancholic yet beautiful ballad "In Love With A Friend." "Flashdance," was the first new release by the duo in six years as well as being the debut single from George Is On. With vocalist Anousheh's sultry, nonchalant vocals accompanied by a slick guitar riff inspired by a song from the 80's cult classic film "Flashdance," the song quickly grew into an international crossover phenomenon that would come to define the "guitar-house" sound. After conquering dancefloors worldwide on promo over the spring of 2004, the song debuted in the USA in late summer of 2004 and went on to become the No. 1 top-selling dance track on Apple's I-Tunes for the year. In September of 2004, the single debuted at the No. 3 spot on the U.K.?s pop charts. "Flashdance" went on to be released in over 30 territories, went Gold in Australia, and won the duo the award for "Best Underground Dance Track" at this year's International Dance Music Awards in Miami. In helping to continue the "Flashdance" phenomenon, Canadian producer Sultan went on to update the song with his bombastic mash-up remix that seamlessly crosses the Deep Dish original with Dire Straits' guitar rock classic "Money For Nothing." In what is one of the world?s first ever legally cleared "mash up" remixes, this instant classic has been included on the US version of the album as a special bonus track. Deep Dish goes on to further bridge the gap between past and present via their re-work Fleetwood Mac's seminal "Dreams" (the third single). And in a major coup for the album, the song features newly recorded vocals from Steve Nicks herself! The song was originally set to be an instrumental, however the duo soon noticed that the vocals for "Dreams" were in near perfect key with their instrumental track. The duo sent the song to Stevie Nicks' camp to see if there was any interest and, lo and behold, Dubfire and Sharam soon after found themselves at the legendary Village Studios in West LA (coincidentally, a studio where Fleetwood Mac had once recorded) laying down the new vocals with the legendary Fleetwood Mac vocalist. It's been 14 years since the duo first met in DC, and it's been seven years since they released their critically acclaimed debut artist album Junk Science. During the time between Junk Science and George Is On, Deep Dish's Dubfire and Sharam have been extremely prolific. They've released a number of genre-defining mixed CDs including Yoshiesque (1999), Renaissance Ibiza (2000), Yoshiesque Two (2001), Deep Dish "Global Underground: Moscow (2001) and Global Underground: Toronto (2003). In addition, they have become two of the most in demand remixers in the business, and their credits include Madonna, Beth Orton, Depeche Mode, Dido, Janet Jackson, The Rolling Stones, 'N Sync, Justin Timberlake, Brother Brown, Morel, and Danny Teneglia. Their remixing prowess earned them a Grammy nomination in 2001 in the "Remixer Of The Year" category and in 2002 they were nominated and won a Grammy in the "Best Remixed Recording" category for their mix of Dido's hit single "Thank You." The group later went on to collaborate with P.Diddy on the track "Let?s Get Ill." On top of all this, these two talented and driven artists tour throughout the year with 100-plus DJ gigs worldwide, leading Rolling Stone to declare, "there may be no other live DJ act better than Deep Dish." Nominee: Grammy Award 2005 "Best Dance Recording" for Deep Dish's "Say Hello" Winner: Grammy Award 2002 "Best Remixed Recording" for Dido's "Thank You" Nominee: Grammy Award 2001 "Remixer of The Year" (Non-Classical) Winner: International Dance Music Awards 2005 for Best Underground Dance Track for "Flashdance" Winner: DanceStar USA Award 2004 for Best Compilation (US Releases) for Deep Dish GU#025:Toronto (Global Underground) and Best DJ Nominee: DanceStar USA Award 2004 for Best Remix (Worldwide DJ's) for P Diddy's "Let's Get Ill" (Deep Dish Remix) (Bad Boy) Winner: Ibiza DJ Award 2004 for Best Set of the Season Winner: DanceStar USA Award 2002 Best Compilation for Deep Dish - GU 021 Moscow' (Global Underground) Nominee: DanceStar USA Award 2003 Party 93.1 FM Award for Best Remix for Justin Timberlake's "Like I Love You" (Deep Dish remix) (Jive) "Hot Duo", Rolling Stone, August 2001 Winner: Muzik Magazine SAS Award 1998 "Best International DJ" Deep Dish also ranked: Winner: 2006 DJ Meeting Awards (Germany) Best International DJ #2 in the "Best Dance/DJ Artist" category by the critics of Rolling Stone for their music awards of 2001 #8 in DJ Magazine's World's Top 100 DJ's reader's poll for 2005, #10 for 2004, #9 for 2003, #16 in 2002, and # 10 in 2001 #5 out of 50 of "America's Favorite DJ's" in BPM in 2005, #12 in 2004 and #9 in 2003 and 2002
https://assets.allamericanmusic.com/images/6216_h_0.jpg
please contact"}
