Omar Pineiro, known by his stage name Smokepurpp, was born in Chicago and first gained recognition for his rapping on SoundCloud. Pineiro's family moved to Miami when he was three years old. Starting in high school, Pineiro became interested in music and began producing instrumentals.
However, they were not doing well and people weren't listening so he started rapping. Pineiro's second song, "Live Off A Lick," featured Florida native rapper XXXTentacion. Due to his budding music career, Pineiro ended up dropping out of high school.
In 2017, Smokepurpp signed a joint deal with Interscope Records and Alamo Records. In September of that year, Smokepurpp released his debut commercial mixtape, Deathstar. The mixtape, which featured Chief Keef, Juicy J and Travis Scott, debuted at #42 on the Billboard 200.
After that release, Smokepurpp switched to the Cactus Jack record label. His second mixtape, Bless Yo Trap, came out in April 2018 and hit #40 on the Billboard 200.
